Today our local schools had their first day of the new year, but we happily spent the morning at a lake with our little nature study group. Lots of mallards, geese, and gulls, and a few other fun sightings: a pair of snowy egrets preening and squawking in the shallow water, a great blue heron perched in the tree above us, wild raspberry brambles lining the creek. The children spent lots of time exploring and a little time drawing in their journals, and then finished up on a nearby playground.
