Today our nature study group visited a creek that flows down from the dam of the lake we visited last week. Beyond the creek was a pond with a flock of mallards–including two friendly ducks who swam right up to us and put on a little show, diving under the water and back up again. The children had a great time watching them, picking weeds, hunting for acorns, climbing on fallen branches, exploring the pond shoreline, and playing a few games of hide-and-seek among the oaks. And we noticed a few early signs of fall: leaves changing color and cooler morning temperatures. A wonderful way to spend a Friday morning!
